When all the world was ice and fire,
and what they prophesied in spite
happened, leaving us in a paludal mire,
sinking and losing the will to fight,
I looked for you though holy mist had taken you
to empyrean realms where prophets glowed
like Moses and Elijah, transfigured and made new.
Your faith had taken you to a celestial abode.
I sought you through the cries for help,
through the broken seals and the stars falling,
aching for your touch and wanting truth.
I walked on beaches with some shacks in bits and kelp,
I saw children bawling and youths brawling,
and found nothing except aggression and untruth.
